FENDER SAID
Guitarist Shigeru Suzuki, whose work with the legendary Japanese rock band Happy End and solo albums such as Band Wagon has had a profound and lasting influence on Japan’s music scene, is celebrated through this exceptional signature model.
The Limited Shigeru Suzuki Stratocaster faithfully recreates the 1962 Stratocaster that Suzuki has played and cherished for decades, crafted in Japan to his exact specifications. Its trademark Fiesta Red finish mirrors the original guitar, featuring a Desert Sand undercoat beneath the color coat to reproduce the appearance of the instrument as it looked when Suzuki first acquired it. The topcoat is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, applied in only the minimum number of coats necessary, allowing the guitar to age naturally and develop an authentic vintage character over time.
To achieve the full, powerful low-end response that Suzuki personally prefers, Fender developed a special set of single-coil pickups after extensive prototyping and testing. These pickups are wound approximately 20% hotter than standard units. The electronics also feature 500kΩ potentiometers to preserve high-frequency clarity, along with a vintage Sprague “Black Beauty” capacitor for authentic tonal performance.
The neck profile was carefully replicated from Suzuki’s original instrument, with meticulous attention paid to every detail to ensure both authenticity and playability. The fingerboard is crafted from carefully selected rosewood, while the body is made from alder chosen to closely match the weight of the original guitar—a specification that Suzuki himself considered particularly important.
As proof of its limited-edition status, each instrument includes a custom neck plate engraved with Suzuki’s signature and an individual serial number, along with a certificate of authenticity.
