FENDER SAYS
Little changed since 1954, today's Stratocaster offers the advantages its predecessors always have: the versatile tonalities of three single-coil pickups, the comfort of the sculpted body and slim, fast neck, the patented Fender tremolo system that allows unmatched expressiveness, and the fully adjustable neck, bridge and pickups.
Modern improvements include a 5-way pickup selector switch and a new X-1 "extra-hot" lead pickup for even more of the legendary Fender "bite". The new headstock is the original small size, but incorporates cast, permanently lubricated and sealed tuning machines with adjustable tension. Available with or without tremolo in six standard colors shown below plus a variety of extra-cost custom colors.
The Stratocaster, with all it has to offer, it's no wonder that it has been the choice of legendary guitarists for the last quarter century.

A Standard Stratocaster from 1982 in sienna sunburst. The headstock is small but different from the pre-CBS one, while the 3-bolt neck plate with tilt-neck and bullet truss rod are replaced by the 4-bolt neck plate with adjustment of the truss rod at the neck heel. For the first time the X-1 bridge pickup is used on a Standard Strat. (Credits: Mario Ciccocelli - www.facebook.com/mariocecil)

Smith Strat natural from 1982, finish which, unlike others, was associated with black plastics.
The headstock, again small, is not yet like those of the pre-CBS Stratocasters; will change again with the introduction of the American Standard, but once again it will not be faithful to the original. We will have to wait until the end of the 90s, when, with the introduction of the Time Machine Series, the headstock will return to being vintage-correct.
The X-1 pickup stands out for its yellow cable.
The neck pocket has the so-called "Micky mouse ears", frequent on the Stratocasters of the 80s (Courtesy of Ismaele Medico).
