Bridge made by powdered stainless steel; early angled tremolo blocks nickel-coated, than painted and, since mid '90s, "powder coated"; base plate made by cold rolled steel
The first American Standard Stratocasters had the two pivot studs going straight into the body; between April 1987 and early 1988 Fender changed the bridge and the new one had two pivot studs going into threaded inserts
The very American Standard Strats had a slightly angled hole for the tremolo arm

FENDER SAYS
American Standard guitars deliver the sound and feel of our popular Vintage Stratocaster and Telecaster, but with some important updates demanded by today's playing style.
This Stratocaster comes with a five position switch and a true out-of-phase middle pickup, so that you're in a noise cancelling mode in two of the Strat's most popular pickup positions. To the middle and bridge pickups we've added our patented TBX tone control for expanded tonal range.
The specially designed bridge improves on the instrument's ability to stay in tune through your most intense tremolo attacks.
These guitars are equipped with our exclusive Bi-Flex truss rod for precise neck curvature adjustment.
The American Standards are classic instruments made better. And made in America.

1994 American Standard Stratocaster, Courtesy of Paolo Bassi. In that year all these guitars were adorned with a commemorative medallion on the headstock and a commemorative plate "1994 Fender STRATOCASTER 40 Years ... and still rockin!" engraved. The serial number is on the front of the headstock yet, but in 1995 it was moved to the back side.
