FENDER SAYS
When Mark sat down to design his Master Design series guitar, he wanted to create a guitar for “players” as opposed to a museum knock-off. More specifically, he wanted to build a guitar that he would play as opposed to hanging on the mantelpiece.
To begin, Mark selected a Lake Placid Blue over Olympic White lacquer, Closet Classic ’65 Stratocaster as his launching pad and customized it by pairing a three-piece alder body with a single-ply white bound, light relic slab-maple neck. The neck has a select Indian rosewood fingerboard with 7 mm pearloid dots, a 9.5” radius, American Standard frets and a’65 vintage correct decal on the headstock.
The inaugural Master Design series guitar is fueled by two light gray bobbin Custom Shop Fat ’sos pickups (neck and middle) and a light gray bobbin, flat pole-piece Texas Special bridge pickup. As an additional twist, Mark had the middle pickup reverse wound!
His masterpiece also includes genuine Kluson tuners, vintage hardware, custom tone capacitors, an L-series serial number, and a special Master Design case.
