COMMENTS
Replaces Standard Stratocaster made in Japan - Fourth Model.
Replaced by Standard Stratocaster (Upgrade), made in Mexico.
Few models were built in 1990, but this strat appeared for the first time in the mid 1991 catalog.
The very first units seem to be built with random components. So it could be possible to find Standard Strats with CBS style gold logo, 22 medium jumbo frets, vintage style truss rod, Eastern Synchronous Tremolo bridge with block saddles and so on. In fact, in the first months of production in 1990, there were chronic parts shortages while ramping up production in Ensenada factory. So, Fender got parts from wherever they could to build guitars, even from non-Fender suppliers.
Early models also known as Special Stratocaster in the UK.
FENDER SAYS (2004)
Fast-action maple neck, comfort-contoured body, three single-coil pickups and standard synchronized tremolo — it’s where the tradition began and still carries on today. Available right- or left-handed with either a rosewood or maple fingerboard.
FENDER SAYS (2006)
The Standard Series Stratocaster guitar now features a new high-mass bridge block for improved sustain and tone, shielded body cavities for quieter operation, medium jumbo frets for a more modern feel and a gig bag.
Other features include a fast-action maple neck, comfort contoured alder body, three single-coil pickups and standard synchronized tremolo. Available in right or left-hand models with either a maple or rosewood fingerboard.
