WILDWOOD SAYS
Wildwoodians, we are proud to present yet another compelling chapter in our Thin Skin story: the Roasted Ash Thin Skin Stratocaster! Breaking new ground always gets us excited here at Wildwood, so we are positively jazzed about these Strats, because they let us accomplish a bunch of exciting firsts with our brilliant friends at Fender. For instance, they're the first Thin Skin to sport a 100% satin finish instead of the typical gloss. It also marks the first time we've ever done a Thin Skin with a roasted body AND a roasted maple neck. Finally (and this is the part that gets us especially stoked), they're the first Thin Skin we've ever done that isn't tied to a specific year or model from the past. With the Roasted Ash Stratocaster, we wanted to add to the Strat's storied history by adding some brand-new wrinkles to one of the most iconic designs in musical history. With this in mind, our friends at Fender delivered us axes that exceeded our wildest expectations, so let's dive deeper and see what makes them such an exciting addition to the mythology of the Stratocaster.
Of course, all new things come from old, so there are a few key reference points for the Roasted Ash Strat. We love the sound of Fender's '54 Custom Shop single-coils so much that we put them in most of our Thin Skins already, so we figured there was no point in fixing something so decidedly unbroken! The slightly-underwound single-coils have smooth, glassy lows to go with sweet, singing highs and vocal, cutting midrange, and this frequency response translates to an incredibly dynamic, expressive playing experience.
